WLG Ltd proudly joined the BBC’s DIY SOS project in Freckleton, in July last year. The project aimed to transform a family home so 13-year-old Daniel could return home after almost three years in hospital.

Dan underwent emergency surgery for a brain tumour in 2022. He later suffered a stroke, which left him with severe disabilities and complex care needs. His family home needed major adaptations before he could safely return. Hundreds of volunteers, contractors and suppliers came together to complete the transformation in just eight days.

WLG Ltd provided four days of volunteer labour to support the build. Operations Manager Jo Baron, Mechanical Site Manager Shane Ninian, Electrician Jordan Bannister, Apprentice Plumber Connor Brooks-Brennan and Apprentice Electrician Zac Haddon all volunteered their time and expertise.

The team supported key mechanical and electrical works across the project. They assisted with installations, coordinated alongside other trades and helped create a safe and accessible environment for Dan and his family. The tight programme demanded teamwork, flexibility and commitment from everyone involved.

The project showed how the construction industry can make a genuine difference to people’s lives. It also highlighted the important role M&E services play in creating homes that support health, safety and independence. WLG felt honoured to support such a meaningful project and to help bring a family back together. The DIY SOS episode is expected to air on BBC One this Autumn.
