UK’s first ever Digital IoT Ambulance Station

Working in true partnership with the projects team at Galliford Try, North West Ambulance Service and IST. West Lancashire Group in-house design team have progressed the adoption and integrated design development of an IP based lighting and IoT intelligent building at the new Blackpool NWAS Hub.

As part of the NWAS trial site in Kendal, WLG and GT have worked as part of an integrated delivery team working hand in hand with the NWAS and IST project team to develop the countries first ever digital ambulance station.

These integrated systems provides a fully integrated digital IP based lighting solution with circadian rhythm lighting and centralised intelligent lighting power modules with central emergency controls utilising IoT technology allowing integration with Building Management System systems and through intelligent IoT multi-functional sensors that allows maximum flexibility for occupancy, temperature, humidity, air quality, day light control and Ambulance operational software and hardware systems.

The progressive adoption by NWAS followed extensive development, functionality, and operational testing along with data analysis and which concluded a positive outcome and following the successful 18-month trials completed at their Kendal facility.

This new approach to building services and the importance of staff wellbeing of staff will additionally led to extensive energy savings, reductions in system losses, extended equipment life expectancy, ease of management, reduction of long term costs and ease of access for planned maintenance, along with ease of adaptation with minimal disruption as well extensive and proven operational efficiencies for the Ambulance Service as a whole.

Chris Birrell, Design Director at WLG advised how privileged it is to have been given the opportunity to develop this new digital approach to building services and believes this provides our clients a new era of opportunity when considering MEP services for their buildings.

IST complete both major and minor projects across the world with examples being Vienna Centre Austria, Eiffel Tower Visitors Centre, Radisson Hotel Group, Wimbledon Court 1 and now more locally, Blackpool NWAS.

WLG continue to work with IST within the UK creating solutions for forward looking clients as regional business partners.
